The President of Yuan Ze University and the Global Affairs Office prepared gifts of Mid-Autumn Festival for overseas students, including pomelo and mooncakes. Prof. Chih-Yang Lin, Chief of Global Affairs Office, said that culturally, pomelo has the homophonic sound of “youzi”, which means good luck; while mooncakes are made in a round shape that can be shared by the family, symbolizing reunion and harmony. Foreign students would not feel lonely and also experience the warmth of Mid-Autumn Festival by these gifts.

全球疫情持續加溫,許多境外生因為疫情已許久未返鄉,特別是距離較遠國家之境外生,元智大學校長及全球處為境外生準備中秋節小禮袋,讓境外生感受元智大家庭的溫暖。 新冠肺炎自去年(2020)流行於全球至今,仍有許多國家沒辦法像臺灣一樣照常上課,國外的教師與學生們只能透過線上視訊來完成一整年的教學。除此之外,許多留學生在返鄉後隨即面臨國家封鎖國境、所有的假期都只能在隔離中度過,甚至返鄉後政策的緣故,無法讓他們回到就學國家繼續完成學業;也有的留學生人只得逗留於異國大學,沒辦法返鄉與家人團聚。
元智大學全球處今年特別贈送中秋小禮袋贈予境外生的活動,禮袋裡提供了柚子及月餅。國際長林智揚表示,文化上,柚子有『遊子』的諧音,蘊意吉祥;而月餅圓又圓,又是閤家分吃,象徵著團圓和睦。這不僅讓境外生人在異國不孤單,也讓他們體驗華人中秋節的溫情暖意。
來自印度的元智大學外籍生也是全球學生聯誼會(Global Students Association)會長黃福表示,收到禮袋既驚喜又開心,往年沒有疫情的情況下,他會和朋友們聚在一起烤肉體驗台灣中秋節特色,今年因疫情的關係取消烤肉活動,只能待在宿舍裡和電腦過中秋,但沒想到學校有這樣貼心的活動,讓境外生感受到疫情之下過節的溫暖氣氛。
